His
favorite colour is the colour of love. He is an accomplished illustrator,
painter, modeler, sculptor and photographer. He is a logo designer
and a teacher who offers courses in portrait drawing, painting
and sculpture. And he is only 32.
Jean-Baptiste
Seckler, son of professional photographer Gérard Seckler,
lives in Paris and has traveled in most parts of the world. He
daydreams of exploring Africa as he indulges his favourite meal
called Tiebou, a Senegalese dish made of rice, fish and vegetables.
In
a recent interview, he claims to have been an artist his entire
life, perhaps drawing inspiration from the world around him as
early as in his mother's womb. "I am inspired by our journey
through LIFE: emotions, love, and strength." More particularly,
Jean-Baptiste, nicknaming himself JB, is drawn to people's faces
and the powerful look in their eyes. "There is nothing more
expressive in this world than a glance", he says.
His
art is synonym with depth of passion and the timeless analysis
of human emotion. His online portfolio boasts an impressive selection
of skillfully crafted masterpieces where one can gaze into the
eyes of world-renowned legends, both dead and alive. His repertoire
of fame ranges from artists, athletes, musicians, broadcasters
and socio-political figures. His painted and sculpted faces have
captured many hearts, including the ones seen on canvas and in
clay. JB has met with Wyclef Jean (hip-hop's unofficial multicultural
conscience), the French National Soccer Team Star Player Zinédine
Zidane, and more often than once, heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson.
He
mentions: "Zinédine is an example for youth! His behaviour
is remarkable, a resonating simplicity of kindness and respect…
he is a champion player who has succeeded due to the love he has
for his sport, an adoration we definitely see on the field."
The
first piece that caught the media's attention was the first bust
he made of Tyson. He has met with Tyson five times: once in Paris
in 1991 and a 2nd time in Memphis in 2002 for the Tyson Lewis
Fight where he offered Mike a full-sized bust. This was an emotional
moment JB and Tyson shared which was filmed and aired in France
by Canal+ and TV Channel. In 2003, JB met Tyson with his sister
in NYC who was conquered by JB's sculpture of her brother, again
in 2004 for Tyson's fight against Danny Lewis and most recently
in Remo, Italy in March 2005. "Mike is charismatic, witty,
and magical. He is a good man... a generous man." Their next
meeting is scheduled for June 2005 in Washington, DC for Tyson's
return in the ring.
With
jazz, funk, soul, new-soul, Rn’B and hip-hop in his CD collection,
he hands over his advice to future generations: "Believe
in yourself, do things from the heart. Do not search to please
others, make yourself happy in all circumstance."
What
next JB? "I just want to be happy and to live from my art."
A simple request from a man of such beautifully profound intensity.
